Mark
Yarnell’s Book-of-the-Month
Recommendation:
On
Equilibrium
By
John Rolston Saul
My number one book pick for the month
of March is On Equilibrium
by John Ralston Saul. I’ve been a fan of Saul for years, but his
new book will knock you off your feet with common sense, ethics,
reason and intuition. This guy is brilliant, and those who enjoy
social philosophy will enjoy it immensely. It’s certainly not a
light read.
I was particularly moved by Saul’s
commentary on technology and the inevitable direction in which it
seems to be leading some people towards a …”society of
spectators seeking passive distraction.” The bulk of his book is
positive and clearly optimistic, yet he leaves no stone unturned in
his effort to absorb his readers in serious contemplation about
methods for changing and balancing society. Saul unmasks absurdities
without apology and forces us to ask fundamental questions about
humanity which, except for a handful of academics and scholars,
generally go undiscussed.
If you are committed to the emotional comfort derived from
forgetting or ignoring reality, you may find some of Saul’s
concepts a bit provocative. I did. But I couldn’t refute those
ideas, which I found most unnerving, and this author is no fringe
thinker or conspiracy theorist; he’s an excellent thinker. This
book will make you think. And that’s still good – isn’t it?
Thought
of the Week Self-Wealth
The following message is a sample of Mark Yarnell's weekly motivational message that you will receive via email if you sign the Self Wealth Guest book!
"The grass is always greener till it's time to mow!"
You know, one of the primary elements of Self-Wealth is focused resiliency. In a world where the average person changes jobs every 3.7 years, few seem to understand the value of persistence.
It's true; the grass always does seem to look greener on the other side. But once you've gotten involved in something you love, the best way to succeed is to put blinders on to everything else. If you want a competitive, strategic advantage, stick with one company and one profession until you become a veteran. In the new millennium resilience will replace opportunism as one of the central elements of success. The old way of jumping around from deal to deal is out - resilience is in.
Isolate the kind of work you love, do your due diligence and get involved in a specific venture with people you enjoy. Once you've created an open-ended, unlimited opportunity, nothing can keep you from rising to your full potential. So, ignore everything and everyone that could divert you from your intended objective.
"The grass is always greener till it's time to mow."
Eventually we all have to stick with one thing if we're going to achieve Self-Wealth.
In most ventures there are self-proclaimed experts who would lead you to believe that you are better off getting involved in several ventures at a time. Pay no attention to such opportunists, for I have yet to meet one who has ever earned the kind of prosperity which allows us to make a difference in the world.
I'm Mark Yarnell and I hope to see you soon at a Self-Wealth Seminar in your area.
